Fishing from a kayak is a pleasurable experience for sure. Some anglers prefer kayak fishing over any other type of fishing. It allows great maneuverability to get into some of the best hot spots for fish. But what fun is it to land that once in a lifetime monster with no one there to see it? I know I would rather be fishing with my best bud rather than going solo any day.
This is why tandem kayaks are so great, you can just bring a friend, spouse, or other family member out with you to enjoy a wonderful day on the water slaying fish together.
There are many options on the market in 2019 when it comes to tandem fishing kayaks. We’ve done our due diligence and have selected 5 of the best out there today. Following are my recommendations for the best 2 man fishing kayaks:
by: Brooklyn Kayak Company
The UH-TK181 12.5 ft Sit-On-Top Tandem Fishing Kayak is a relatively expensive but well-equipped two seater kayak. It’s versatile and it offers a lot of space. It can also carry a lot of gear.
So if you’re looking for a two-seater kayak for an extended trip then this one’s for you and here’s what it has to offer.
The UH-TK181 is 12.5 feet long and 30 inches wide. It weighs around 68 pounds, and it can carry 450 pounds, including its passengers.
The UH-TK181 is the model that’s designed for fishing expeditions. Remember, it’s large storage capacity?
That’s intended for fishing equipment, though you can also use it for camping gear.
Other main features include 2 padded seats, a set of paddles as well as a few paddle holders.
The kayak is also quite stable and easy to control, but what it’s really good at is fishing. This is arguably one of the best fishing kayaks of 2019, and a great choice for anyone who prefers vessels that have large weight capacities.
The UH-TK181 includes several accessories including seven-rod holders, waterproof hatches, twin paddle rests as well as several carrying handles for easy portability.
The UH-TK181 works for fishing and long-distance travel.
Not only is it lighter than most other two seater kayaks, but it can also travel for extended periods of time with little to no trouble. It’s also surprisingly tough despite its appearance.
Unfortunately, these very same characteristics are also a weakness.
Because of its large storage space, the UH-TK181 is prone to taking on water. So if you’re going to buy this particular item, be sure to do something about the water issue.
All in all, UH-TK181 is a nice choice if you’re looking for a fishing kayak. It’s reliable, tough and it’s made for fishing trips.
It is also a lot lighter than most other tandem kayaks but is heavier compared to other single person kayaks – I have written an unbiased review on the best lightweight kayaks, Check it out.
Unfortunately, you’ll need to watch the storage area and keep water from entering but other than that, it’s a good kayak.
by: Vibe Kayaks
The Vibe Skipjack 120T Tandem Kayak is a flashy-looking kayak with plenty of useful features. Don’t let its colorful appearance fool you.
Not only can the Skipjack 120T carry two to three people, but it’s also quite tough.
In fact, you can use it to fish in deep waters or explore deep lakes. So if you’re interested in this item then here’s what you should know about it.
The Skipjack 120T was designed to carry 2 to 3 passengers, plus baggage. It measures around 12.2 feet and weighs around 72 pounds. Most importantly, its weight capacity is around 500 pounds.
The Skipjack 120T has a lot of interesting features. Not only is it stable, but it also offers enough space for 3 persons as well as a lot of items and equipment.
It also comes with four base plate mountings, and it can be customized for other types of mounts.
Furthermore, the Skipjack 120T offers a lot of upgrade and accessory options.
So if you want to add a few extra features then you will be able to do so without too much trouble.
The Skipjack offers several options. Accessory options include a couple of flush mount rod holders and 4 mounting points for different types of mount rod holders.
There are also storage options if you require additional space.
These include a couple of V-Wave hatches that have built-in cup holders and a cargo area that features bungee tie down straps.
Finally, you can also upgrade the Skipjack 120T with a couple of Phantom Grip handles, a couple of molded handles and a few seat and storage hatches.
The Skipjack 120T performs well enough. The seats are comfortable and there’s plenty of leg space for two passengers.
It’s also fairly easy to maneuver and control, even in rough waters.
Unfortunately, all these great features come at a cost. At around 72 pounds, it’s a little heavy and this weight can push the kayak deep into the water.
So even though the Skipjack 120T was designed to carry 500 pounds of weight, it’s best that you limit yourself to 300 to 400 pounds.
The Skipjack 120T works well enough. It’s tough and it handles well. It offers ample storage space and you can use it on all kinds of waters, including oceans.
The weight limit can be a problem, and you’ll need to do something about the buckles, but these are problems with easy solutions.
You just need to replace the buckles and avoid anything too heavy. If you can do that then you’ll have no trouble with the Skipjack 120T.
The seats could also be a bit more comfortable in my opinion. Fortunately there are many upgrade options available – I have written an honest guide on the best kayak seat pads, check it out.
The Sevylor Coleman Colorado 2-Person Fishing Kayak is a tough looking kayak with plenty of good features. It features a thick tarpaulin bottom and the rest of the hull is built like it was made for the military.
It may not look particularly colorful as far as aesthetics go, but it’s a solid vessel that you can rely on. Here’s what it can offer you.
The Coleman Colorado’s dimensions are 30.1 inches by 11.6 inches by 19.2 inches. It weighs around 40 pounds and it can carry 300 to 400 pounds (though you may want to be conservative in how much equipment you bring along).
The Coleman Colorado has a lot of features, the most important of which include an 18 gauge PVC, a thick tarpaulin bottom, a tough nylon cover and adjustable seats.
Basically, this kayak was made for fishing enthusiasts and it shows. It floats well on all types of waters, including lakes, rivers, and even oceans.
The adjustable seats will keep you comfortable during your travels, while the trolling motor will allow you and your companion to travel more quickly.
And if you want to adjust your pole, you can use the Bekley Quick Set Rod Holders to do that without too much trouble.
Finally, there are the mesh pockets and D-rings, both of which will allow you to take better care of most of your gear.
In short, the Coleman Colorado is an excellent choice if you need a good 2 man fishing kayak, and one of the best kayaks produced so far this year.
Aside from the Berkley Quick Set Rod Holders, which we’ve already touched on, the Coleman Colorado also includes a couple of other useful accessories.
These include trolling motor fittings to enhance your fishing capability and a few paddle holders to keep your paddles secure when you don’t need to use them.
The Coleman Colorado is certainly an interesting vessel. It has a lot of items and features, and they offer a lot of value.
Not only is this kayak strong and durable, but it also feels smooth. The multiple air chambers are particularly interesting since they will help you get back to shore after hours staying on the water.
The tarpaulin and nylon covers also add to the kayak’s durability while the Airtight System allows the kayak to travel on all kinds of waters.
The seats can feel a little uncomfortable at times, but it’s nothing a few adjustments can’t fix.
Finally, the storage space seems a little limited, so avoid bringing a lot of things unless you really need them. The Coleman Colorado may be tough but it’s not exceptional in terms of weight capacity.
All in all, the Coleman Colorado is a great kayak to have, especially if you are looking for a two person fishing kayak.
There are plenty of other two-seat fishing kayaks out there, but they rarely have the same level of features or durability that the Coleman Colorado can offer.
Not only can it thrive on different bodies of water, but it also offers a lot of accessories.
So it’s a good option if you want something that’s tough and versatile.
by: Malibu Kayaks
The Malibu Kayaks Pro 2 Tandem Fish and Dive Kayak is a tandem kayak that’s designed for all kinds of activities. It can be used for fishing, recreational activities or even a relaxing kayak session with someone you like.
It’s not the toughest kayak out there, but it’s versatile and it has a lot of nice features that you may enjoy. So if you would like to buy a Malibu Kayak then here’s what you should know.
The Malibu measures 13 feet by 3 feet, so it’s longer and skinnier from many other 2 man kayaks.
It also has a capacity of 550 pounds, and it has plenty of extra space in the event that you want to bring a lot of extra items on your next journey.
Aside from its sleek design, the Malibu also features 6 flushes mounted rod holders that can hold various rod positions. It also has a special insert for a trolling motor mount and there is enough space for a small dive tank.
And speaking of storage, it also has a lot of extra room for all kinds of items and supplies.
However, because of the kayak’s slim shape, you may need to choose them carefully.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning that the Malibu has a lot of extra accessories and features, such as threaded nylon eyelets and center molded foot wells.
Not all people will find these items useful, but you may find them helpful in certain situations.
The Malibu offers several decent and but relatively common accessories and items. These include threaded nylon eyelets, drain plugs, nylon hooks, bow and stern handles and bungee tank cords.
The Malibu is essentially a multipurpose vessel, which means that it can do all kinds of things but it won’t excel in any of them.
However, it is fast thanks to its long length, and it is also more maneuverable compared to wider and rounder fishing kayaks on the market.
The downside is that this kayak is not particularly tough and may even pop a leak or two if you’re not careful.
So even though it performs well in various environments, it’s best to be a little cautious with the Malibu.
The bottom line about the Malibu is that it is a versatile kayak that isn’t as tough as it looks.
Despite its many great features, it’s not the kind of kayak that you can rely on if you find yourself on choppy waters.
You can upgrade its durability on your own, but that requires more time and money than it’s worth.
However, if you only plan to use the kayak on tranquil and quiet waters then it will work splendidly.
It also 0as all the features that most people want, and as long as you take good care of it, it will take good care of you.
The Lifetime Sport Fisher Tandem Kayak is a large, powerful and imposing vessel that’s designed to endure harsh conditions. It may not look like the most elegant thing nor is it the fastest vessel on the market, but if you are looking for something tough then the Sport Fisher is right for you.
So if you are interested in buying it then here’s what you should know.
The Sport Fisher is 10 feet long and 3 feet wide. It also weighs around 66 pounds and is powerful enough to carry around 500 pounds worth of passengers and baggage.
Despite its impressive appearance and design, the Sport Fisher’s great feature is its blow molded hull, which is made from extra hard Polyethylene.
This construction is what makes the Sport Fisher very tough, and why it can withstand harsh conditions.
Moreover, the hull was also designed to be very stable and it can distribute its weight very well.
High density UV-resistant Polyethylene HDPE also protects it from cracking and peeling as well as other impacts related damage.
Another important feature of the Sport Fisher is its weight capacity. It can hold up to 3 people as well as large equipment, which means that storage space is not an issue.
Finally, the kayak’s storage hatch can protect your belongings from water splashes provided you secure them properly.
So not only can the Sports Fisher carry a lot of items, it can protect them too.
The Lifetime Sport Fisher includes several great accessories and items. These include 2 double sided paddles, a set of paddle clips, 2 padded backrests, fishing pole holders and a storage hatch.
The Sports Fisher feels like the kayak version of an RV or a truck. It may not be fast but it’s tough, self-sufficient and it can carry a large number of items.
It’s also has a lot of interesting accessories that you may find interesting.
More importantly, the Sports Fisher is also exceptionally durable, and although it’s a bit lacking in creature comforts, it’s a reliable vessel that you can put you can trust even in rough weather.
The Lifetime Sport Fisher is a very tough and very durable fishing kayak.
It is also very stable and more importantly, it can carry a lot of weight, which is a good thing if you’re planning to take a long trip.
Unfortunately, all these good qualities come at the cost of speed and maneuverability.
Fortunately, we have an unbiased review on best cheap kayaks, do read it.
So this probably isn’t the type that you’d enjoy if you just want to have fun. Also, paddling may become a little difficult given the Sport Fisher’s mass.
So if you are interested in the Sport Fisher, remember it was designed to be slow and reliable; not fast and enjoyable.
It’s a great vessel for fishing and exploring, but it’s a poor choice if you just want to have fun with people you like.
